Albion BID 2, the West Bromwich based improvement district scheme finally comes to the end of it’s 5 year term in 2016, so I was approached by the BID management team to rebrand their existing logo.
In 2002 the ABC Albion Business Consortium was established by a determined group of Businessmen to combat extensive and increasing crime, fly-tipping and anti social behaviour experienced on a daily basis within Albion Road and the surrounding area. In 2004, with the introduction of the Business Improvement Regulations, the Albion Business Consortium, based on voluntary involvement on the part of businesses in the area, was successful in transforming itself into a Business Improvement District. With the participation and financial contribution of all the 68 businesses in the area, this heralded a step change in addressing the issues in question.
Immediately after its inception Albion BID1 moved quickly to address the security issues through the installation of a network of CCTV cameras and security patrols. The impact of Albion BID1 was immediate with crime against business reducing by 50% over its initial 5 year term. Also, there was a significant decline in the number of businesses moving out of the area or ceasing trading.
Due to the success of Albion BID1 primarily in reducing crime, businesses outside the immediate geographical area requested their inclusion in the next 5 year term. As a result an enlarged Albion BID2 comprising 123 businesses, was established in 2011.
Moving forward to 2015, instead of simply naming the partnership ‘Albion BID 3’, the new branding was titled ‘BID Sandwell’ due to the continued expansion of it’s members in the wider West Bromwich district. A consultation event for a new BID proposal was held in the district during November to encourage more businesses to join the scheme, making each one more safer and secure with proven results. With encouraging feedback from it’s current members as well as West Midlands Police, the outcome looks very prosperous in securing the future of Sandwell.
